Looks like all he did is change the face colors. There is no depth to that
though.
To do it simply select the face in the graphics area as you would to start a
sketch, then right click and select properties. You should get a dialog
allowing you to change the face color.
Personally I think I might do it a bit different. I think I would extrude 3
separate features to make the layers and change the feature colors instead
of the face colors.
