Split Part

I have a part I have drawn in inventor. It is saved as an ".ipt" file.

I would like to split this part into two seperate Ipt files so i can assemble it a different way.

For example,

the part i wish to design is an alternate keying of the one i just drew-

meaning that a solid of the part is rotated 60 degrees in this case.

Is it possible to do this with inventor commands?

Without an image to see what you are talking about, we are flying blind as to what might actually work.

My first thought is will a simple extruded cut work?  Do a file saves as copy then cut out the part not needed in each file?  If this will not work providing images is a must.

I first will need permission to upload part files or images for public use.

In some cases it is against company policy to publish company files.

A simple extrusion of the file would theoretically split the part into two solids,

However it will not allow me to manipulate either of the solids, because they are locked in relation to eachother.

You need to look into multi-body solids modeling techniques.

and

Move Bodies command.

Create a dummy part the exhibits all the behavior of your proprietary geometry.
