Split a body with two components that are not connected

Hi there,

I'm having troubles with splitting a solid that contains of 2 components that aren't connected to each other. I want to split them into two solid bodies, but for some reason, it won't do it.

I've tried every split option i can think of, but maybe anyone else can help me solving this?

Thanks in advance!!

- Reconnect them, perhaps using an Extrusion

- Do the Split

- Get rid off the additional extrusion on both bodies, using Delete face with healing.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your reply!

I've connected the two parts with eachother by doing an extrusion.

When i try to do a split, i get the following error. What do i do wrong? I have created workplanes on several positions of the extrusion to use as the split tool. Still it won't work.

Any ideas???

Try to move the parting plane somewhere into the interior of the additional Extrusion

Do you mean like this? (see attachment)

Didn't work for me. I have tried to select the workplane and the circular sketch as split tool.

This is a new issue for me. Combining parts back worked in many cases.

I've started a new body after completing the nut; so no more splitting was needed. And I changed your thread sizes, but I don't know, if they are ok this way.

A 12mm hole will not have any material for an M12 thread - there will be no thread engagement.

BartS - Right click on Revolution 3 select Edit feature and then select New Solid at the bottom of the dialog box.

Looks like you are not aware of this option.

You're right; Jeffrey. And when looking deeper, there's more:

- No clearance for Thread1

- Only 1 mm wall thickness at the bottom of the nut

- Revolution2 and Revolution3 (O-rings + washer ?) should be better separate bodies, too
