SP2 Crashes alot

Many more crashes in SP2. All have been in assembly mode. SP1 was far more
stable.

Is there any way to get back to SP1 configuration?

You can't uninstall a SP (AFAIK). You'll need to reinstall IV & SP1.

It's not SP2 that's the problem, but yes, you can go back as Mech said.

I agree

I don't know guys, I've seen more crashes with SP2 than with SP1.
Personally I'm considering going back to SP1 to double check to see if it's
the problem.

When have seen an increase in crashes during modelling and a decrease in the
drawing environment.

We had previously rarely seen crashes during modelling and now we are seeing
a couple per day.

If it was SP2, shouldn't I be seeing it too? I haven't had a crash in a good
while, but when I do, it's often when I try to add coincident constraints
to the origin on a copied sketch that needs more than one.

I do agree, installing SP2 has been a turning point in stability for me
also. So if SP2 is not the reason for the lack of stability, what is?

I see more wierd crashes in semi-isolated that was new in sp2. Try e.g. doing "properties"-"Status" on a part checked out to you 😉

I had problems with my leader and dimension lines not showing up, so I went back
to SP1.

It's your system configuration most likely. How long has it been since you
had a clean system? Do you have a bunch of other programs on it that aren't
work related. Is your RAM budget RAM? Could be a lot of things, but it's not
SP2.

There is definitely something going on but I have no idea what. I have
had trouble with SP2 on my M50 and one co-worker is having problems on
his M50. We are both running W2k but with different video drivers.

We have SP2 running on a variety of Desktops on NT4 and XP and it is
ROCK SOLID. We have been testing on exactly the same data sets. On the
M50's, SP1 was rock solid. SP1 is also rock solid on the desktops.

Needless to say, I would like to figure out what the difference is. For
now, I have to stick with SP1 on my laptop.

I have only had 1 crash since SP2. Some strange anomalties concerning iMates that I can't get to repeat though. Another user we have has had about 8 crashes a week with SP2. He is keeping a log so we can look for a trend. Same hardware and drivers on both machines but a very different data set.

I guess it doesn't matter whether it's R6, R6 SP1, or R6 SP2, There all down
grades to me when it comes to sheet metal. I have a number of parts that
have errors now in R6 SPx. I'm wondering if I'm the only one that sees this,
or are there others? In fact, there is a part called Robust.ipt from CF that
was done in R5.3 a wile back. It was a shelled out pan that unfolded fine.
If anyone has this, try it out and see if it works okay.

We are experiencing are lot more crashes under SP2 than 1.

Our list of features that caused crashes under SP1 was lengthy and not necessary repeatable after a restart of Inventor. All of our crashes have been documented and we averaged 5 a day under SP1. With SP2 we still have all of our old problems that caused crashes plus one new fault that has made us reinstall back to SP1.

The new fault was based around Assemblies and using tangential constraints to cylinders. We were designing a personnel basket from steel tube and our crashes have reached 22 in one day. All log files showed creating constraints as the cause. We contacted our dealer and they could recreate the crashes on their systems.

The main causes of crashes with SP1 were
1. Crashing when opening .idw files that were locked by another user. (50%)
2. Crashing while editing .idw files. (20%)
3. Using constraints in assemblies or in sketch mode.(20%)

After SP2 we have not seen any of the above faults dissapear and we now have a new one when using constraints in an assembly with tangents or to a cylinder axis.

Even old assemblies that worked in SP1 now crash when editing relatively simple constraints.

(When talking to other users that have SP2 installed we have realised that using tangential constraints and doing formed pipework is not that common so this problem may go unnoticed to a lot of users.)

Our systems have been checked out by our Inventor supplier and tweaked by a Tech support from Autodesk. At this point hardware is not a suspect.

Even though we have a long list of functionality problems with Inventor that we hoped would be fixed in SP2 the new constraint problem has stopped us from using it. Hopefully there will be an interim patch soon.

I have had crashes constantly since installing SP2. For the past week I have been trying to work on one assembly with maybe a couple hundred parts and have accomplished maybe an equivilant to a half a days work. We removed the program the first day we had the problem and reinstalled with the service packs and I thought it fixed it because it ran for a good 15 or 20 minutes with no crashes, but it soon began again. Before SP2 I only crashed a few times a day. I am extremely frustrated and feel like I am wasting my time trying to do anything at all. In the drawing mode, I can place dimensions and come back later to find the dimensions moved and design views changed. I just pray for a service pack to fix the service pack.
