Sketched Symbol --textbox -- fill

Hello,

Question 1

I want to fill the text box with white color

so that the hatching in the views does not interfere with

the text inside my text symbol.

as per my understanding this is not possible..

If any body knows a way please share it

Question 2

If answer of the above question is NO then

I thought of an alternative-- draw a rectangle instead of text box

but was not able to find a way to make it fit to the length

of the text. Note that : the text will be varying and so the text length

Any suggestions

Thanks

I feel your pain.

No background mask in Inventor text, it's a real PIMA.

I ended up either opening the dwg in acad and adding text with masks but that was so slow I created symbols; rectangles or other shapes with a white fill. They won't automatically resize, you end up creating several sizes, some with one line, some with more.

It's ridiculous really.

Tip: use 255,255,254 colour for a white fill. I had problems in past with pdf exports where a solid white fill came out solid black in pdf!

Hopefully better text and annotation tools will be available in a future release.

Thanks for the reply,

I got that pdf problem too so

@ Autodesk guys

Please can we add 3 text points one at center one at left end and one at right end in next release

That will be helpful for box resize issue.

Is it possible to upload a simple example?

I may be confused; however, I'm able to "white out" any hatch located behind annotation text by controlling the paragraph and spacing within the annotation text. I'm also able to produced colored/filled-in shapes by using Annotate > Symbols > End Fill > Custom Shape. Does this information help?

Many Thanks,

I'm on the way out the door so I can't check it but ...

Cross Hatch Clipping on the Drawing tab of Document Settings (on the Tools tab) does not work with sketched symbols?

What exactly are you trying to do? (Please include file and/or pictures.)

dan_Inv09 got the hint.

Inside sketched symbol edit environment

we can not add hatch to text box.

I was going thru the 2013 Beta version.

the datum symbol does excatly what I want to do

But I want to acheive it using sketched symbol

Please find attached picture for more explaination

I have to assume that you want more than just the part number in your symbol. Regular text, leader text and balloons will clip the hatching. (A balloon using a sketched symbol as the "override shape" does not seem to clip the hatching.)

Also I do not believe the text box will dynamically change as the text changes. (Now that I've played with it a little, I think I will need an explanation of exactly what possible purpose the text box is supposed to serve.)

If you could give a little more detail about what your sketched symbol is going to be there may be another way to get similar results.

Hopefully Autodesk is looking into sketched symbol hatch clipping (or someone needs to get it onto the wish list) but for now it looks like we will have to look for another way to accomplish what you need.

I do not have a clear explaination. WRT my initial post I was under impression that the text box will

atleast update as per the text but after your post I realised that the text box does not update automatically.

A bad assumption from my side.

The leader text with leader style change can do the needed. That something I figured out.

The leader color to white and pdf export option "all colors as black" unchecked will do it for now.

BUT A NEW PROBLEM

Few cases I have to create a sketch hatch. View--- Sketch-- proj boundaries and fill

That hatch does not get clipped thats my understanding.

@ Autodesk: Can we add funtionality such as "bring to front" "send to back" , as we have in Autocad,

to Inventor
