Sketch Plane Orientation

I'm not sure if I'm asking the right question so I'll explain.  When creating a new sketch in a part, the view swoops out to focus on the origin planes when clicking on 'create new sketch'.  How do I stop this?  This is different to the "look at sketch plane on sketch creation" option, which I've turned off.  What I would like to be able to do is rotate my model until I can see the plane that I would like to use, then click 'create new sketch' without having to go searching for the plane that I want to use again.  I'm sure there must be a way to switch off this annoying behaviour, but I've been unable to find it so far.  Any ideas?

This only happens to you on the very first sketch of a part or if there are no features yet am I right?

No, editing an existing part within an assembly.

I have tried to force this behavior and can't make it happen (with the settings you describe).

Can you post step-by-step what you are doing that results in this behavior?
