Skeleton modelling - 3DSketch

I am doing a skeleton model of a pipe.
Can I usa a 3d sketch in a dereived part?
The 3d sketch is not visible/selectable in the derived part. Any suggestions ? (without IV Pro)
I want to use the 3d sketch to model all the individual parts, bends and pipes.

Thankyou again Udaya. This is exactly what I've been wanting to do. I have been searching for an answer to this for a long time and you have given me two variations to an excellent solution.

In 2003, when this thread was started and the comment about deriving was made, the ability to derive a 3D sketch did not exist.

Here is another great way to create a 3D pipe route from two 2D sketches (for those that don't have Inventor Professional).

This uses the Inventor Intersection Curve command.
