Skeleton Modeling BUG ??

Calling all skeleton modelers!

Have any of you had a problem with skeleton modeling updating ?

That is, I have a drum assembly for a conveyor based on a skeleton model.
If I open the conveyor, then open the drum assbly then edit the derived
component to stretch the length of the drum, change the dimension and whammo
Inventor crashes with the famous message "Inventor.exe has ...."

This is very repeatable for me. I can open just the base part, change the
length, save it and then I can open the drum assbly and everything updates
fine.

Bug ??

I take back the last statement - I can't open just the base unit and change
it and everything is alright.
There must be a bug!

If, after opening, I go directly to the parameters table and change the
value for the parameter (which is named Drum_len) then everything works
fine.

On the other hand, if I open the base part, RMB on the extrusion and use
Show Dims, double click the dimension but don't change it there. Then go
into the parameter table and change there Inventor crashes without fail.

Anyone else see this ??

Thanks,
Phil

No, so must guess there is something peculiar to your files, sequence or
system. Can you post it to CF with a sequence to cause the crash?

I haven't. As Jeff says, it sounds like you have a problem with one of your
files. Can you repeat the crash with any of the derived parts (which would
suggest a problem with the master file), or is it just one of them? If it's
just one, I'd try creating a new version of that part and see if that has
the same problem. If it does, I'd look really close at the master file
sketch used to create that part. See my reply to Willy Driessen on 1-7 for
a few things I've found that can cause a sketch to act up. Willy's problem
was long extrude times, but I've also seen that a master file that takes a
long time to compute extrude profiles is also more likely to crash.

If your project is too big to post to CF, be sure to get it to your VAR for
forwarding to Autodesk. The developers are always interested in repeatable
crashes.

Walt

Thanks both,

The file is fairly small so I will post it shortly. (Crazy here right now)

The master and the assembly are pretty basic.. just a simple conveyor drum
with a couple of spacer rings and taper locks.

The strange part I found is in the base model used to control the assembly.
If I changed the dimensions using the parameter table then everything worked
as normal. If I accidentally went to change the dimension using "Show dims"
on the feature, then double clicking the dimension I'd realize that was the
wrong place to change it. Go back to the parameter table and change it, IV
would crash.

As mentioned, I will post it shortly.

Thanks
Phil
