Skeletal Modeleing and excel driven parts

I have created a master part of a weldment. This weldment will be made up
of structrual shapes that I have excel driven parts of (channels, tubing,
angles...). When I try to create a component from inside my assembly, I pick
create component, and for the template, I browse over to my "structural"
folder that has my excel driven shapes. I place my shape in the assembly,
then pick the X-Y plane.
Now the problem is that when I pick Return, Inventor keeps wanting my to
pick another plane (ie., I get the sketch pad and pencil icon). The only
way to get out of this is to close the assembly and not save changes.

What gives. I think this is the way that I have did this in the past. Is
there a setting that will cause this behavior?

Thanks,
Kirk
