Simple question

As an Inventor rookie, I can't figure this out, but it doesn't appear
that it should be this difficult.

I have cylinder from which I would like to cut a revolved sketch. I
have created a work plane which bisects the cylinder. My question is
how can I start my new sketch at the center point of the existing
extruded cylinder feature? Dragging the mouse around the top of the
cylinder does not give me a concentric or coincident constraint to start
my new sketch. In MDT this was a simple thing to do, so I must be
missing something right under my nose.

Thanks,

Chris Breidenbaugh

Put a Work Axis though the cylinder before the sketch, and project the Work
Axis onto the sketch.

Also, to see the sktech plane, RMB--->Slice Graphics.

Well that's what I did. I started with a work axis through the center of the
cylinder. Then I created a work plane using the work axis and the XY plane
from the Origins folder. So now I have a cylinder (like a can of soup). I
need to start my next sketch at the center point of the top of the cylinder.
This is where I get stopped. I have created a new sketch using the work plane
as the sketch plane, but I cannot find the center of the top of the cylinder to
start the sketch.

Now project the diameter of the cylinder to the sketch. You will then be able to
find the mid-point of the line to start your sketch geometry.

Thanks, that was just what the doctor order (that and a Manhattan on the rocks).

Hello,

Sorry, but I'm new...

I would like to make a spherical cut on a top of a cylinder.
I tried to use the FILLET feature but it generates the curve to outside and
this feature does not accept negative value for the radius.

Do I need to create a sphere and subtract it from cylinder?

Regards,
Fernando.

Why not just revolve a cut from a sketch on the center plane? Will that
work?

Larry,

I did not tried this.
The top of cylinder already has a extruded polygon that I subtracted from.
So, the revolved cut will work and do not crash my polygon cut?

Sorry about stupid issues but I'm very old on AutoCAD but brand new on
Inventor...

Regards,
Fernando.

Your image didn't come through anyway Fernando. You have to attach it to the
message. It's only linked to your hard drive unless you attach it.

Larry,

I did your tip and it works fine... 🙂
Thank you.
