Similar to localize/externalize ability

Hello;
I have a situation, where I created a number of assemblies, with a group of components. Now I would like to change the main plate that everything's mated to etc., with some pretty drastic changes. If I was in mdt I think I would do a save as, to create a new file, then localize that detail in the assy., then make the changes required, then externalize it again, under a new name & part file. Can I do anything like that with inventor? Thanks in advance for any info. concerning this.

Hit the "Copy Components" button on the Assembly Panel.

It will copy a selected part/assy then place it into the active assy with
all components as new names. (expand at the bottom of the first dialog box
to "reuse standard content" if you want)

It sounds like you want to do a 'save as/replace'. You can do this manually by opening the component to be replaced, saving a copy aa a new name, the do a RMB on the original part in the assembly and pick component->replace or replace all..

There is an add-in available that automates this process.

Hello Again;
Sorry for delay, I just got back on the project. If I do this to the part, with the save as replace the original parts & 4 assy's won't change will they? Thanks for any input.

No, the component will only be replaced in the assy you're working in.
