Sheetmetal Rip

Sheetmetal Rip

Hi all

I'm sure someone posted a method of doing what I want, but I can't find it
in older messages.

What I need is a flange as in the darker part, with no rip relief as I'm
getting in the lighter one.

I created the darker one by offsetting a plane then creating a flat wall and
finally a bend.

I'm sure someone posted the sheetmetal settings that did this with a normal
flange feature.

Anyone?.....

Thanks

Rui

Crank up the Minimum Remnant to some big number like 100.

Can you post the file so I can fiddle with it? That's usually the only way I
can fix things.

Sorry to not get back - just got in.
The way that you've curved off the edge like that and then put in a flange,
I don't think Inventor is gonna be able to figure out how to trim that back.
I think it's too much to ask a software package to decide how to transition
the remnant removal from a curved edge. If it was just going off to a
straight lined edge, I'd say you had a chance of removing the excess. I'm
not real good at this Inventor, maybe some of the pros would have a word or
two for this special situation. Good luck! Sorry I couldn't help on this
one.

I put a couple of files in iCF; 2 files; one with a small remnant left. Not
sure it's what you're after, but I think it could be made okay.

Larry, looks like you accomplished this feat in both instances by setting
the bend radius to a very small number. I have contemplated the same thing
to achieve a desired result as well, but rejected it because I feared it
would result in an inaccurate flat pattern. Is this the case do you know?

Well ... no real straight forward answer to that. To get it where it comes
out right it depends on the brake/whatever it's going to be made on;
different machines, different dies, etc, but if you know some of that or can
run a test, you can adjust the K-Factor and other settings to get the size
flat where it will come out correctly.
