Sheet size printing

Is it possible to print sheets of different sizes from the same .dwg file? I have an .idw w/ 25+ sheets all of different sizes but when i do a print all they are all printed on the same size sheet. Is the a way change this? Edited by: rgioff on May 10, 2010 7:49 PM

I guess first off are you printing these full size or what? Second why are you mixing sheet sizes in one drawing? Third 25 plus sheets, sounds dangerous and what kind of computer are you running that will handle this? Do a search for comments on excessive sheets for a drawing.

The sheets are a mix of A and B size. Im mixing them because they make up one complete package and its easier to print the package together then to have to open up each individual .DWG and print seperately. As for computing, my machine is very fast and handles the sheets with no problem. I would think other people would want to use the abiltity to have multiple sheets in this manner aswell since it can save time. Also since the program allows you to have different size sheets why wouldnt it then allow you to print the same way?

Hello
I do not now if it is possible, but export to PDF (with internal pdf exporter of IV) and then try the same way with Adobe Acrobat to print.

Not having print profiles, or a way to link specific printers to each
sheet template (and thus size) is a nightmare tbh... It practically
makes a mockery of the existence of the batch plot utility (from task
scheduler) - why have a batch plot feature when it can't automatically
work out the sheet sizes and thus printer settings? Have to pick out
all the files with one size sheet and batch those, then pick out those
with a different sheet size for a different batch - if you're
opening/closing each file to check the sheet size then why on earth
batch-plot anything?!?

We ran across this when deciding to move from physically plotted master
drawings to pdfs - soon realised that we couldn't batch generate a load
of these pdfs from our idws as they're all different sheet sizes 😞
much grumbling ensued...

on a side note - as others have said, it's very unwise having 25 sheets
in a single idw... Historically there were issues with idw stability
and corruption, so would lose all that work, instead of a single sheet -
not heard of corruption problems recently, but you never know (all your
eggs in 1 basket, as they say). But, more importantly - how much extra
memory is the system using when working with this file? Far easier on
the system (and thus arguably quicker) to just use a separate idw per
sheet and only have the idws open for the sheets you're working on.
