Sheet metal Jog

Hello All,
How can I create a sheet metal jog? Like the attached. I used a contor flange to creat this one, but I have to add a jog to an existing part and don't want to have to totally redraw it just to get the jog. I'm hoping you can add it like you can a flange.
TIA
Regards,
Rick

Just create another face on a workplane and use the bend feature

See attached

Not sure what you mean. You do realize you can convert an existing part to sheetmetal. Of course it should have uniform thickness.

If you create a flange with zero degree angle (and "old method" check box checked in Inventor 2008) then it will create a jog. Can you post the existing part?

Rick,

Would Mirror help? If the new jog is symmetric to the original one about a
mirror plane, you can simply mirror the Contour Flange about the plane.

Hi mcgyvr

great! that works well, is it possible to have two different sized faces so the the bend transition from the first full width say 50mm up into the second full with say 100mm wide?

i played with this but the bend width stays the same as the smallest width.

Adrian,

I didn't use that, b/c I just needed a 'joggle joint' for sheet metal parts to join co-planar.

However, I did look up the help file to make sure I did it right, and it seems that one of their video tutorials shows what you're talking about with like 3 scenarios.

Hi Chris

Thanks, what did you search for to find these videos or do you have a link?

I discovered a 'joggle joint' can be made using either the "bend" or "face" command in the sheetmetal module.

I used the "face" command for reasons I can't recall.

See the attached screen-shot that I got to by accessing "help" from within the "bend" command.

I haven't tried to do what you want to do, but maybe you can get it to work for you?

Hi Chris thanks, i have tried these when i was messing about but the bend extension is not working??

I am including a sample file as I hope this gets noticed as a possible bug

I am using inventor 2012, I have tried a double bend and as in this enclosed sample a single bend but i can't seem to get the "bend extension perpendicular to side faces" to work, it always extends to the width of the smallest edge?

is this a bug in 2012?

Adrian,

I sent you the wong Help file screen shot.

Find attached the correct one.

Turns-out you can't do what you want to do, unless the adjoining sheet you're connecting to has tapered/angled edges.

Cheers ... Chris

Adrian,

I have 2010, so can't open your 2012 file.

Hi Chris

I think this feature should woork on a standard bend as in my sample file, I am sure it is a bug? can anyone verify this?
