sheet metal bends

I am trying to make a tapered sheet metal bend without any luck. Is there a way to do this?

I am having difficulty creating a 90 degree bend where the bend starts with a radius of .875 in. and over a distance of 5 inches tapers to a radius of .25 inches.

As far as I know there's no direct way of doing this.

However, I know that you can model a cone, using the revolve command,
and create a flat pattern from it.

I haven't tried it but I expect that you could use revolve to model the
tapered bend, then extrude flats from each of the appropriate edges, to
give you the results you desire.

I tried that method but the problem I am having is that the edges to be etruded are partialy round an I need a flat layout so that I can have it cut to form.

Not entirely sure what your after so I posted an example under 'Sheet
metal bands' (darn spell check doesn't read the subject line) in CF.

Don't forget to move the End of Part marker down.

Joe:

Customer Files (CF) can be accessed as follows:

WEBBASED CF:
http://discussion.autodesk.com/WebX?14@67.Wd6TaaEbdXF^1@.ee940b5

NTTP CF:
news://discussion.autodesk.com/autodesk.autocad.customer-files

If you have trouble opening the file, it may be because I inadvertently
created it in 6.0 so just post here and I'll correct it.
