serious error

When I try to open an .ipt, I get serious error, string too long. Inventor
locks up completely, only option is to close inventor. I could open the
assembly that used it by skipping the part in the resolve link dialog box
once, now I get serious error on the assembly too! Is there a way to fix
this?

Can you open an old version of the IPT?
You say serious error on assembly, can you open the assembly with out IV
locking or crashing?
If you can get an old version open then save it as current version and try
the assembly again.
You could try moving the IPT off path and if at any time the assembly can be
opened successfully save it and then reinsert the IPT after backing up all
your files to do with the assembly.

If you open up the windows taskmanager, is there another inventor session
open. If so close it and try again.

There was another session going! Thanks Kathy, I'm back in business.
