Sectioning a item look within a Projected view in a drawing

I am having difficulty finding a way of creating a section-style view on a item within a already projected view. I have attached what the corregation sheets (Items 59) look like on a container in the AutoCAD version of our drawings which is what I want the Inventor version attachment to look like. I tried drawing a sketch on the view and trimming the items lines around a curved spline but this didn't work, unless I was doing it wrong.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think what you are looking for is a "Breakout" view.
Check the help for more information:

If you can't figure it out, post back here and perhaps add some sample inventor files.

I have tried using the breakout following those instructions but when I create a sketch on the view I get the error 'The view does not contain a sketch with a closed profile' although It clearly does have a sketch under the 'VIEW' section of the sheet in Model Properties. I really am lost as to what I'm doing wrong.

If that is the exact error message, then it sounds like the sketch profile you've drawn is not a closed loop.
Does it work when you use the rectangle tool to draw the sketch?

Can you post your files? (or a simplified example)

Hi duguid.1,

Another thing to remember is that you must first select the view and then create the sketch. This way the sketch is associated with the view.  This video might help also:

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
