I like the web-based side to do searches.

enoren -

At http://discussion.autodesk.com/ you can search the newsgroups
for previously posted questions. Put keywords in the blank box
and then chose search for "last 3 days, last 2 weeks, last 3
months or all". Search will bring up a list of newsgroup messages
matching the text you provide in the search box. By using the
Autodesk server search engine you will be searching all available
messages not just those on your local newsgroup cache.

Put in the specific words as the search words and chose All for
the time length of the search. Clicking on an individual topic
listed in the search findings will spread out the messages in
that topic in a tree formation. The topics are listed by date
with the newest date at the top.

Hope this helps you in future questions.

How does one sort the search results by date? My search results seem to be in some random order which makes them very unproductive.

At this time there is no way to sort the search results by date. It is on the fix/request list. -- Anne Brown Manager, Moderator Autodesk Product Support Discussion Groups Discussion Q&A: http://www.autodesk.com/discussion Mike_Oletzke wrote: > > How does one sort the search results by date? Not sure how you read the n/g, I use Outlook Express and have the n/g set to display unthreaded messages in chronological sequence. When I want to search a thread, I select a message in the thread and pick the Subject header, which then alphabetizes based on the selected message - meaning I see the whole thread. When I want to see all messages sent by some person, I select one from them and then click on the From header which alphabetizes as above, so all of that person's messages are right there. Same with Sent (which is how I normally browse). I realize that this isn't exactly an answer to your question but maybe it will help?

Mike - One of the answers I got back from the web team said that the search results are sorted by relevance to the search words. Date order will be discussed at a future time. -- Anne Brown Manager, Moderator Autodesk Product Support Discussion Groups Discussion Q&A: http://www.autodesk.com/discussion Mike_Oletzke wrote: > > How does one sort the search results by date? Anne & Gary,
Thanks for looking into this and for your input. I normally use a newsreader to read the groups and the web side just to search for old messages. I also used to like the fact that you could limit your search to the last 3 months and the fact that it showed which group the post was in when searching multiple groups.
Thanks again.
-Mike
