Scaling Objects in Inventor

Hello Inventor Community!

I am an intermediate Inventor and 3ds max user.

I downloaded a .ipt file from the internet and am modifying the part for my own purposes. There are no features on this model other than a file named Base1. What I want to do is scale the object. So my question is : How would I scale an object ONLY on the X-Axis, Just like in 3DS Max, how you can choose to scale an object on a single axis, I need to do the same, but in Inventor as I cant export my 3ds Max file to Inventor.

I tried using the Derive Component option, but that scales the object overall, as I ONLY need it on the X AXIS. Any help would be GREATLY apreciated!

Thank you for reading!

There is a non-uniform scaling tool in the SDK.

Or if you have Inventor Professional you can take it over to Tooling to do the scaling.

Okay, I ran the .msi Installer. I am at the folder it created, and I am presented with 8 Folders.
AutoCustomize : ColorSchemeEditor : CopyDesign : DerivedPart_SP : DrawingTools : GeneralTools : PartNumberModifier : UpdateThreadDesignation

Where is the "non-uniform scaling tool" located at within these folders? Thanks again for the help!!!!!!!!!!

DerivedPart_ScalePosition

I seem to recall that there is some sort of ReadMe description of each one of those tools.

Okay, I've installed the file using the .bat file provided. Is there going to be a new tool installed on my tools listing, or...?

Yes, I see. I read this readme before I installed, and followed the steps (It was just "run the Install.bat file" which I did. Now do I go back into inventor and derive a part again or do i use the Visual Studio files given to me?

I don't know what "Visual Studio" is.

I would use Inventor to non-uniform scale the ipt files with the Derived Components Scale and Position tool.

Okay, but heres what i did...

Went to the SDK folder
Installed the UserTools.msi file
opened the UserTools folder the mis installed
opened the DerivedPart_SP folder
ran Install.bat as administrator
--The cmd opened, displayed a lot of text, then disapeared
Opened Inventor
--No DerviedPart_SP tool
-- Looked in Add-Ins, not their either

Where is the tool itself?

Did you turn off UAC for the install?

I doubt Windows will allow a bat to run with UAC on.

Is there a way I can dropbox you the file, and since your scaling works, if you could quickly scale it for me since mine wont install properly

I should have asked this at the beginning.  You alread had what you needed.

FYI - I had not installed the DeriveComponent_SP on this machine.

I tried without turning off UAC.  It didn't work.

I turned off UAC and rebooted.

Ran the bat again.

Rebooted the computer and started Inventor.

Checked the add-ins and there it was.

But since you have Inventor Professional and don't need this.

Open your part file.

Go to the Environments tab and click
Mold Design

Okay, I created a new Mold Design. Where do I go to scale the object then save it back to an .ipt?

See images.

Pay attention to where the file is being saved (there will be a whole bunch of files created - but you only need the one.

Part Shrinkage.pngAfter scaling the part you might want to right click on the Derived Component node in the browser and Suppress Link with Base Component.

Got curious so I ran the msi and derive & s/p bat. I get the below error when starting IV.

Image1.png

Not sure what the problem is but I was able to create a keyboard shortcut in tools>option>customize to launch the app.

I also get this error when closing IV
