Save Copy As "DWG" Issues, IV8

1. Opening a drawing to do a Save Copy as DWG (I have configured
for acad2000.), flags the drawing as needing to be saved because of changes.

2. Although the resulting drawing CAN be opening in plain vanilla autocad
2002 without any problems, trying to open it in MDT 6 causes an
unhandled exception in MDT 6 (SP3) and the recover command will not work
either. Invariably we always get calls from our customers demanding new data
because they cannot open these files (using MDT).

Bob, Open one of the files in Vanilla with the recover command. Save the file, then purge it clean. Save it, close Vanilla, then open it in M6. I believe, (if memory serves me) this will work out the demons from the export.

Demons? Recover? this is starting to sound like the same old tune. I converted a idw to 2000 LT. opened it up a found that the deminsions were real world, my 64feet became 5 feet 4 inches. I selected the demension tab and went update. Just one more update to keep track of!
In the world that I work in a DWG is still a DWG.
mayube in version 25 this wll be fixed

I tried your procedure and I must tell you it did
not work. vanilla acad was not able to recover the file

(see attachment). I then tried opening the file
again and purging all and saving, upon which vanilla

acad found no errors on audit. However, I still
could not open the file in MDT 6. Plus trying to now

run recover from MDT 6 reported no errors found,
but proceeded to crash immediately after dismissing

that dialog. Maybe this worked in 7, but it is no
longer working for version 8 exported acad files.

Bob,

Can you post the original file that crashes in customer files? Also, can you export the same file again from Inventor and post it as well for comparison.

Or if you like you can email them directly to me; Michael.Best@rts-group.com

When you say original file do you mean the native
Inventor files, or the autocad file

that IV8 created?

The Autocad file.

Posted a file in iCF under same subject. Noticed
something

else screwy about the autocad files IV creates. I
created this

dwg file today, but the File Creation date says
9/5/03 while

the modification date has today's date. There was
no previous

dwg file existing in this directory for it to get
the date from.

Wonder where it got that date?

Bob,

I reposted the file back into ICF with my initials on it.

Autodesk needs to know the procedure that you did to create this file so they can prevent it in the future. One of the reasons I was interested in this thread was because I ran into it a couple of months ago.

->Opening the file in 2004 was no problem.

->Opening it up in 2002 was no problem.

->Opening it up using the recover tool in 2002 crashed Acad.

->Opening the file in 2002 (no recovery), purging, then copying the contents in the Layout to another file proved to be the way to remove the "database error" that was occuring. When I saved this file. closed acad 2002, then opened M6, the file opened with no problems.

The export out of Inventor to Acad 2002 has not been the best procedures for us. A small percentage of the exports will have the "database errors" that occur in the drawings.

Maybe Gary or Jason needs to take a look at the file posted and massage the procedure I used to get a good M6 drawing.

To see the database error open the file using the recover tool.

I hope some of this info helps,

Mike@RTSWright.

Mike,

I think I solved this one. I was specifying a dwt
template file for Inventor to use for setting up

basic units and drawing size in AutoCAD, but it was
created in MDT2004. I created a new

template in vanilla AutoCAD 2002 and now everything
seems to be working fine.
