rollup & incompatable units error in parts list

anybody have any ideas how to troubleshoot "incompatable units error" in a "parts list" when using "roll merge" in the bom?
I've done this 1000x before with no problems.

I checked all the units of each part, and they're all the same.

We have seen it many times - and I know of no way to fix it.

But it works fine for my "mass" column.

Why does it work for "mass" and not lengths?

Does it still do this in 2012 or 2013?

More information. In teh attachyed screenshot, you can see that teh Base QTY for Item 240 is displying the wrong value for some reason. I change this back to each or select the PL parameter (which shows the correct value), when the selection is complete, Base QTY reverts back to the incorrect value. I have tried renaming the parameter, and reselecting it as the Base QTY - it made no difference.

Thanks for verifying.

Does this mean the problem has an inherent defect that needs remedy?

In my opinion yes....

It's like this other major defect I keep running into that keeps putting a kink in my work-flow and costing me time/$$$:

iFeatures using "work features" instead of sketch entities.

iFeatures are so unreliable, and have been for so long, I wonder why they're still a part of Inventor?

Why don't they either FIX IT or ELIMINATE it from the "code"?

There's other long-standing defects too, but that's just a recent "thing" that caused me a lotta "trouble".

Thanks for your input and opinion.

Make sure your BOM Base Quantity for the parts is set to G_L.

It should produce a result like this.

(Top image not rolled up, bottom image rolled up.)

VARIES in the Unit QTY and Base QTY columns should be expected.

Your descriptions and Part Numbers need to be identical, so make sure that the length or weight is not included in the part description, or you will get an Incompatible Units error.

They are all set to the same parameter just as you have done...

I know this is old, but if someone has this error, I think I may have the solution. For the QTY column, if its a content centre part then its value for QTY is a length in inches, but if it is a standard part, it's quantity is a unitless value. So, if for instance you have derived a content centre part into a standard part, with the same part number you will get the error because the QTY value is not using the same units between each part.

I hope this helps somebody 🙂
