Resolved files

I am trying to open a drawing that is missing a file, but when I locate the file, it tells me that the file is not usable? I am not sure why it is saying that as the file, is the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is the file corrupt, can you open the file by it's self. You may need to get an "Old-Version" from the "Old-Version" folder inside your work directory.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Hi KevinPinks7697,

You might also make sure you're not trying to resolve a part with an assembly file or an assembly with a part file.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

No, the part being resolved to is the part that was used.

It is not an assembly replacing a part or a part replacing an assembly.

It is not corrupt, I can place perfectly fine new parts that it doesn't complain about using the same file.

It just decides, "I'm not going to like that part this time."

I mostly get it with an iPart I made years ago (I think it was me, maybe it was one of the other guys). It's called "Shim" and to make sure the parts list is accurate it is used many times in many places - so when I quickly click through it the first time I second guess myself and wonder if it said it was "unusable" the last time and maybe it's popping up again because that last one really wasn't usable.

It seems to me like it is okay with the iPart child but it doesn't think the parent is the same. (Maybe next time it comes up I'll remember to take some screen shots.) It's possible that new items were added to the table, but it's still the same file and the rows for each part in this old assembly I'm opening haven't been touched.

It's also very inconsistent, I opened the assembly and the drawings several times over the last two or three days with no problems and then today it complains.

The parent says it was last modified Friday (don't know who or what) and the folder the children go in says it was modified today. If the parent changed Friday I should have had to resolve it Tuesday when I first started working with this assembly, shouldn't I?

(It's the old completion detector - I was opening it to do that one last thing. It had to find a way to keep my attention.)

Have you installed the latest service packs and updates for the version of Inventor you are using? Has all of the data been migrated to the latest version? Does the Generate File command work in the Factory part for that particular member file? Perhaps re-generating the file will resolve the issue.

Thanks,

Hi! The behavior does not sound right but it seems to be file specific. Could you attach the drawing and the part file here or send them to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com)?

Thanks!
