Replacing .iam file on a exploded view .ipn

I copied an Assembly with all its components, and gave it new numbers to all parts and assembly.

The new set of files will be identical. I open the assembly and replaced all old numbers with the new ones.

Is there a way to replace the old assembly that is referenced on the .ipn with the new one?

I know that on a assembly drawing you can go to replace model, and replace both the assembly and the exploded view. But what about the exploded view?

try renaming the old assembly so the ipn can't find it and ask for a replace.

Salariua’s suggestion is the right approach here is a more in-depth outline. Before opening any files launch Design Assistant and open the top level or top drawing file in the properties section of the Design Assistant (DA). In the lower section check off project files and drawings if you want a complete documentation set.

Here you can use the Action option of copy and in Subfolder place in a new folder location (recommended) or it will all be for not. You can also use the Name option and rename the files. I would do all your renaming and folder location for the presentation files, part files, assembly and drawing all at once while you can see it in DA.

Once all the renaming is done save and close DA. Then create a new project file that just points to the new folder. Open the drawing where the presentation file is used and when asked to resolve the link for the missing presentation file point to the re-named one. You will most likely need to do the same thing for any drawing files.

Once you resolve all the links in your ipn’s and drawings you can then edit the components and the updates should ripple across the files.

If you have Vault doing a Copy Design will allow you to do the same things.
