Replace family template

Hello again,

I am using inventor 2010 sp1. I have a content center part that I want to replace the family template. I am having problems doing so on random components. Sometimes it lets me and sometimes not. I cannot pinpoint any differences or irregularities between the different library parts.

I am recieving the message indicating..."Import Part Invalid"

Here is my process

Open from content center and save to another folder with or without the same name.
Open Content Editor
right click and replace family template
Recieve this extremely helpful message... 🙂 "Import Part Invalid"

Note that i made no changes to the file.

Please help.

Did you copy the specific family to a new Custom Content Center library?
All shipping libraries are read only.

We have created a custom read/write library. The Components family templates i am trying to update are all custom parts. Meaning i did not copy an ansi or iso part to make my own.

Yeah, i looked through it the other day while i was looking for an answer to another problem. Its a pretty good doc, but doesn't really give me any hints on my particular situation.

I am hoping that i am just doing something wrong and not that my templates are becoming corrupt.

I read thru that document too - good doc but I see you never got your problem addressed after you said you read the doc?? I'm having the same problem with custom ipart factories that I have published to a custom CC. When I go to try and "Replace Family Template" I get the same error.
