Repeatable crash

I have a plastic part created. I split the part in half, creating 2 solid
bodies. Using the "Make Part" command, I tried to create a new part from 1
of the solid bodies. (Goal here is to create a part that is a half-shell).
When I select one of the solid bodies a message pops up (see attached screen
cap). OK to message, continue on creating the new part, Apply, crash to
desktop with AD report box.
Never used this tool so maybe i'm doing something wrong here.
Advise needed.

Hi David,

Did you send the crash report to Autodesk? If you have filled in your email
address, I can look it up and see what the problem is. You can send your
email address to me (yizhou.cao at autodesk.com).

Can you try using the OK button instead of Apply and see if it still
crashes?

Thanks,

Tried both the Apply and OK. Apply appears to do something but then crashes
when applying Cancel. OK crashes immediately. All of this is if I uncheck
the 'Place part in assembly' option. IF I do the same thing with this
checked, it will open the newly created assembly. If I try to save, crash to
desktop.
Thanks for your help in this.

David,

There is a known crash in Make Part and it's related to having a sketch in
the template. Please take a look at this,
http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=720857&tstart=45.
If that's the case for you, the workaround posted in that thread should
help.

When did you send in the crash report? Today?

Don'y think my report is getting through. Goes on the web, says "connecting
to site (ip address)" but no action. Progress bars get about 50 % complete.
FYI, I did the Make Part again after deleting some unconsumed sketches.
Still crashed. Will look through it again and try to send another report
tommorrow.

If you have a sketch in the part template you use in the Make Part command,
that may cause the crash. You can edit the template and delete all the
sketches.

Yizhou,
I did have an unconsumed sketch in the part template file. Everything seems
to work now.
Thanks for your help.
