Reorientation

I have a Press Tool designed in Inv 10.
For ease of design it has been sketched and profiled with the base of the part at an angle to the line of press - while I can turn the part temporarily using orbit - How to I turn it permanently so the base is 90 degrees to the line of pressing / reorientate the UCS ??

Some possibilities,

In an part (IPT) you could start the orbit and then RMB and Redefine Isometric and select the edge, face, plane etc to select the desired orientation.

In an IAM (assembly) you could try creating a design view. i.e. place the part in the IAM and then create the design view.

Like Autocad we don't have a precise control tool for rotation inside of Inventor. It's been asked for and we are aware of it. Thanks.

I'm using IV 2010 Suite.

Why won't a "View Representation" in an iam show the same "Orientation" in an idw view?

Sounds to me like a completely different problem.

after about an hour of reading, i found an adsk post that says iv can't do what i want

it doesn't pay any attention to "orientation" in view reps.

if i'm mistaken, please say so ... chris

What version of Inventor did the other reference refer to?
What is the url of your source of information?
What version of Inventor are you using?

Attach example files(s) here.

Shekar on our thread ...

Igor @ http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Reorient-Drawing-Base-View/m-p/2676409/highlight/tru...

Dennis @ http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Reorient-drawing-view/m-p/2329035/highlight/true#M31... (he claims you can reorient an existing view, which is impossible in iv 2010: "Alternatively, select base view, pick on Change View Orientation and orient
the view in any position you desire.")

I can't find the one reference that I was looking for, but I "interpolated the above to mean iv 2010 doesn't have the capability to make design veiws represent the view orientation in the iam file.

if you know otherwise, please advise ... Chris
