Hello,
I'm currently creating a procedure to manage a standard part library.
For that, I'm trying to import downloaded STEP files from suppliers online libraries, and some of these STEP files contain assemblies.
I can open them as wanted in Inventor (1 .IAM and .IPT files), problem is I can't edit .IPT names. I can only rename them in Windows, but I would like to rename in Inventor before saving for the first time.
I would like to have something like that, with "Assembly" the assembly name:
Assembly.IAM
Assembly_1.IPT
Assembly_2.IPT
Assembly_3.IPT
...
How can I do that without renaming in Windows?
I attached the STEP file I'm using, downloaded form McMaster.
Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for the report and sorry for the inconvenience !
I have tried to reproduce this issue, but I am not seeing the same behavior as you have reported (I attach an avi for my steps), so would it be possible to post an video or more information that may help me reproduce this problem here ? or there is something missing in my steps ? I am using Autodesk Inventor 2012 on Win7 OS, what's your version ?

Renaming the components as in your video does not change the file names in which the components will be saved, which is what the OP is asking, I think. Is there somewhere else that name changes can be made which will become the file name when the imported components are first saved?
Thanks for answering.
I'm using Inventor 2011 on Windows 7 64.
I watched your video, and effectively, I can rename parts as you do.
Problem is when saving, .IPT files are still named NONE*.IPT in Windows, and I can't change this name as desired using Inventor.
And changing names in windows is not the best way, I will have to find each .IPT with new name when opening .IAM
I can't post a video, I hope you understand my problem.
Thanks.
