Remove Old Version

I have a problem on removing Old Version folder. This folder was always
created even after I change "Number of Version" setting in project file to
0. I can keep going with it except it's a bit annoying -- it's being created
everywhere.

Thanks for a tip!

They are insistent by design and have been known to save a wutt or two, i.e.
a post from a guy that got his saved the other day.

It can't be turned off. As Larry said though, I don't know why anyone would want to work without backups.

I have had old version (and versions to keep in preR6) set to 0 for the
longest time. Since it makes a new version each time you save (and I save
every 2-5 mins) the "old versions" aren't really that old. In all 7
releases I have never been successful in retrieving an old file via this
method. I usually go to the server backup harddrive from the day before.

Of course I've only had a handful of files go completely bad anyway.

Personally I find the fact that it create the folder to be quite annoying.

I use one backup and I retrieve it sometimes, not because a file goes
completely bad (I use DataKeeper for that rare event) I use it more to back
out of a mud-hole at the end of a dead-end road. That said, there are other
times when I would like those directories to go visit Jimmy Hoffa.

I use the semi-isolated environment for the dead-end exploration. I don't really have to commit until I decide to check-in the changes. If I decide a portion or all of the design changes were uninspired or otherwise stupid I can just cancel the checkout.

In Explorer, highlight the top level directory, pick Search and type
"OldVersions" then Search. Highlight all the OldVersions folders and
hit delete (shift delete if you don't want them in Recycle).

For those who wonder if they are of value: They have saved my butt
several times. I would not empty them out unless I knew my assemblies
were clean and up to date.

Also, as you have previously stated, the presence of the Old Versions folder
generally indicates that the assembly/project has been migrated to the new
release.
