Referencing parts in assembly

I have a rather complex assembly that I didn't draft but I am trying to work with. Most of my experience is with Solidworks. I'm trying to create a hole in a plate that lines up with a hole in a different part in the same assembly. I know there is probably a way to create the hole in the assembly and reference the other part but I dont know how. Any help?

I can get the hole drawn in the assmebly, but when I open the part the hole doesnt exist. Is there anyway to fix that?

From the assembly, edit (not open) the part that needs the hole, start a sketch, project the hole from the part that already has it, then use that hole center for your hole command.  This makes the part Adaptive, which maintains a link through that assembly to the other part.

Hope that gets you started.
