I have multiple assemblies that use a lot of the same parts. I've created idw's with multiple sheets detailing each the part that goes into the assemblies. I know that once I get a sheet with the part labeled and dimensioned how I want it I can copy and paste that sheet into another idw that has multiple sheets, but is there a way to "xref" or link an idw into another idw? If I change something on the apart then I have to go back and find all the idw's with the same part in it and paste the updated version of that sheet into each idw. I would like to be able to create individual single sheet idw's for each part and then link them or "xref" (for lack of a better term) them into mulitple sheet idw's. Then all I have to worry about is updating the single part sheet and it's automatically updated in all the multiple sheet idw's that reference that part. Pretty easy to do in AutoCAD, but not sure if or how to do something like this in Inventor.
You had an interesting request I looked at a few different ideas that came to mind and unfortunately none panned out to be viable. This maybe an idea you could post to the Inventor IdeaStation as a future enhancement or check to see if someone else has proposed it and add your kudos or vote. http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Inventor-IdeaStation/idb-p/v1232
