Reducing STEP file size

We were sent some step files of valves from a company - what would be the best practise to make this into (clean up) a useful part to be used in our assemblies. Interested in converting it into a useful part but reduced in size. (Compared to other valvess we use - this is easilly 10 times the size).

Looking for a magic solution - other than just re-doing it myself (seeing as there are about 100 valves).

I was able to reduce the size a bit by copying to the construction environment, stitching into a solid, then copying back as a base solid and deleting the original composite.  But it's still 3.7 MB.

Someone said this seems to work... lots of steps involved, but it might be worth a try.

Check this one.

I assume you could also remove additional detail.

Step files actually compress really well. I use 7zip at maximum compression and a 30 odd meg file ends up being maybe 5 megs. This lets me send large 3D models over email.

Thank you for the tips and efforts ... I've looked at them all and appreciate it.

I've very interested in how you managed to reduce the file by such a large margin JD - the file you posted would be more than acceptable in our sub assemblies.

Borrowing the thread, I'm really desperate now 😕

I have a STEP file that is way too large for the costumer, i've tryed everything now to reduce the size. Does anybody know how to do this? Please see link for the STEP file.

Remove all that text and the file will be significantly smaller.
