reducing File-Size after converting from 3DS to IPN ? Please help.

Hi,

My intention was to convert a 3DS-File into an IPN-File, to use it in Inventor.

As I did not managed to do this in Inventor, I importet the 3DS-File in CATIA V5 and convertet it into a CATIA-CatPart and from there in an IGES.

Then I was able to open it in Inventor and made a IPN out of it.

The PROBLEM: The orginal 3DS-File had 700 kilobyte but the actual IPN 54 MegaByte !

Can anybody help me to reduce it to a minimum ?

File attached to this message

Thanks in advance

IPN?  or do you really mean an IPT file?

Why not go the AutoCAD way? 3DSIN+SAVEAS

Please note that 3DS is a mesh (facetted) format so your IPT 3D model will become quite large. See also:

Hi Vmichl,

Thanks for your answer.

As I am an absoloute beginner, my intention was that someone from the discussion group helps me to convert it.

My second whish was, that I receive a smallest possible file out of the original one, which can be opended with Inventor. No details necessary.

Is that possible ? Would you help me ?

That would be very kind of you

Best regards

3ds is not a very useful filetype.  I recommend you start over from scratch.

Hi JDMather,

What do you mean with your sentence >I recommend you start over from scratch<  ?

File>New

start sketching....

...in otherwords, start over in Inventor.

You might import the faceted geometry for reference, but only for reference.  Then delete it once you have enough critical information.
