re Breaking links in derived parts

I have been experiencing a problem breaking the link on derived parts.

After breaking the link if you rename any of the files that were in the
assembly it came it asks you to redirect it on opening the file.

You can just skip it as the link is broken it is not a problem if you do
redirect it you can not save it as the link is broken.

I have a lot of derived parts that are suffering from this problem and I can
not correct them I have had to recreate them.
however the new files loose all the constraints in the parent model.

I am sick
