R11 Shaded View Quality and its Default Setting...if you have shaded views in your idw you want to read this.

Just a note for all of you who use shaded views that you will likely
experience the same problem I have

The quality of shaded views is set to 'poor' by default. This means that
every time you print a drawing you will have what looks like a very poor
quality bitmap image.

To get this back to normal you have to go to (while in an idw is open)
Applications\Document Settings\Drawing\ and then set "Use Bitmap for
Shaded Views" to 'Offline Only'

There are 3 problems with this

1) Why is this set this way by default? This is just another thing that
you have to add to your templates.
2) This is a document setting which means that it's not preserved for
all drawings. This means that ALL drawings that are already drawn up
will be set to the default which is different then that of R10 which
means that a lot of people are going to be pissed off when they realize
they are going to have to go through the procedure I stated above to get
their shaded views in their drawings to actually look/print professional.
3) Why wasn't this fixed back in Beta?

Thanks Troy

That fixed my PDF printing problem where all I was getting was a black blob.
Wish I would have known that yesterday when my supplier was wanting PDF's of
a drawing and I couldn't give them to him.

Thank you Troy, I had also problems with less render quality and black blobs.

I see no improvement in speed between files in R10 and R11 due to this
"enhancement" In fact it is slowing me down because I have to override
the document setting each time I want to print.

To add to this dilemma what happens when you print to a pdf? Well since
the pdf will print what you see you get the choppy low pixel count of
the shaded views. Trouble is that you can zoom in on a pdf, so that
everyone you send the pdf can zoom in and see the choppy view. Not so
good im my books

Hm, I wonder what a DWF looks like when printed in this "choppy" mode. If
it's looks clean then I smell a conspiracy 😉

Well I just had to check it out..you got me wondering. Well they both
look equally terrible so I guess its no conspiracy. What I hate the most
is how threads look. That is the only reason I print shaded views is to
show threads, and you can hardly tell that it has threads.

We are actively looking in to this issue. The default was set to use bitmap
for performance/capacity improvements. I apologize that there are other
issues that you are running in to as a result of this default setting.

I would like to get some of your datasets that you are running in to this
problem on printing. I need the datasets to validate any changes we make to
address this issue. Please email them to rajkumar.ilanchelian@autodesk.com.
Your datasets will be very helpful.

Also if you can send in information of what your print settings are would be
helpful.
