R11 iAssemblies

Can someone tell me whether the iAssemblies in R11 support the use of Custom iParts

No, but you can "vote" for Custom iAssemblies at the AUGI Inventor Wishlist:

Have they got to the official voting yet ?

Or are we still on the "I think that's great so it can have my support, but it would be better with an 'upper whopper dinger stopper
in blue plastic'." stage ?

No, voting has not begun yet. There are 3 voting cycles per year. Not sure
when the first one begins.

What are custom iParts? Isn't every iPart that's not a standard part a
custom iPart?

BTW Teun, you might want to update your graphics drivers for R11.

couldn't agree more! custom iparts are even more irrelevant now that you can create a new member in the ipart factory when you insert the ipart into an assembly.

IV11 is sitting on my desk, I am not going to install IV11 untill I know
when Cyco Meridian will support IV11 (which could take some time).

But I will update my graphics driver before installing IV11, don't worry!

So far I've counted 64 wishes - just over two years worth.

🙂

I think Autodesk has got enough wishes for the next 3 releases of
Inventor...perhaps we should close the entire AUGI Inventor Wishlist?

:-)

What we don't know is how many of the wishes are already within ADSK's plans. Out of the first top ten, six might already be in the
pipeline.

Also, it would be nice if ADSK staffers visited the site, as some of the wishes might fit-in easily with something they're currently
working on.

No doubt over time and once it's settled down we'll see the fruits of our labours. For now I've got to search this N/G for all the
wishes I've submitted and re-do them via AUGI.

I'm quite happy for the moment - my #1 wish which I logged during R8 was the ability to display workplanes in a different colour
when viewed from the negative z-direction.

Only waited 3 releases, but now I'm happy bunny...

Do you think Cyco will ever support iAssemblies, or the Content Center, or
Frame Generator, or Design Accelerator (or Inventor Pro for that matter?)

A normal iPart is a completely table driven part.

a custom iPart is a table driven part with as many custom fields as required.

if there are 10 different fields, each that can have a infinitely variable user input, it would be virtually impossible to have every iteration in the table.

Not sure if you've tried this yet or not but when you insert a ipart if you go to the tab that says "table" there's a "new" option added. This allows you to generate members in the factory without opening it. Not sure if this helps you or not but it is a nice feature.
