R10 and certified PCIe graphics

I'm am getting a desktop quoted and was wondering what card people is using with R10 and Vault 4.

I have a FX1000-128mb now that I am using with R9. Should I spring for one of the PCIe cards listed below or stick with the FX1000?

Are the new PCIe cards faster? Troublesome?

Just looking for insight.

Thanks

We have workstations with both AGP and PCIe cards. No noticable
difference in card performance between the 900 XGL I have and the FX
1300 my co-workers have. I do the hardware and driver maintenance on
all the computers.

Only thing to watch - If you get a motherboard with PCI Express interface
then you'll have more upgrade options in the future.

If you stick with the AGP slot you may end up with a motherboard that dates
quicker.

i'm trying to build a new computer now for work and ive come into this
problem, we run 750xgl cards which work good, but to get the new stuff, they
all run pci express, i'm not wanting to buy another vid card, but if i don't
i have to get an older board. I can't get a new dual core processor or ddr2
ram with agp.... anybody have some economical places to get a decent nvidia
quadro pci-e card???

Dabs.com is a good starting point. Maybe ask your reseller if he can do a deal with one of the distributors.

I looked at upgrading my old computer and getting a complete new system about two months ago. The changes to system architecture (pci express, 64 bit processor, etc.) made the new system a much better deal in the long run.

Here are the specs for the system I ordered...

Custom built by local reseller
AMD Athlon 64 3800 on an Asus A8N-E motherboard
Four 1 gig DDR dimms
Quadra FX540 PCI express video card with 128 meg memory
450 watt power supply

The motherboard is capable of accepting a dual core processor down the road if I need more horsepower. The system is ready for 64 bit windows when it becomes more mature and better supported.

Try newegg.com. They generally have good pricing and excellent support.
Also a pretty good selection. All nvidia workstation cards are manufactured
by PNY Technologies.

Respectfully,

It sounds like you have not got the new system yet. Let us know how it runs R10 especially on "large" assemblies.

They installed the new system at the end of June. It is considerably faster than the old system. Some drawings that were taking 45 minutes to load (a 24 sheet idw referencing multiple assemblies and presentations) on the old system load in less than 10 minutes now. (All files are stored on the network server)

I have not noticed the computer using virtual memory at all with the new system.
