"Files Corrupt" error message while loading Inventor

After 4 days of trying to load Inventor 2011 to Windows 8.1, I thought we finally had success as it was beginning to install. But, at the very end of the installation, I received a "CRC failed in materiallibrary\CMILL\Common 1. cab Unexpected end of archive" message. What now?

Daniel,

If you look at the system requirements for 2011, Windows 8 is not even listed.  That might be part of what your issue is.

Half joking here, but:

Install IV 2011

Has the four days you have spent trying to get this to work been worth $134?

I don't understand why you are trying to use an unsupported OS for your version of Inventor.

See the following link for a list of Inventor Versions and suported Windows Versions

Three reasons I used 8.1 - #1) because 8.1 was the only disk/Windows product available at Best Buy. #2) It was my impression that Parallels required a disk install, not an OS loaded online, that could only be downloaded on a PC. #3) Since I have a mac and am new to Parallels, and have never owned a PC, there is a learning curve here. I assumed loading software was as easy on a PC as it always has been on my mac. #neverassume.

So, as of now, after Best Buy kindly exchanged our 8.1 for Windows 7, I'll be installing/replacing the new with the old. Not sure if 2011 is the Inventor version I need to load (?) What is VI2011?

danielneuhaus,

IV 2011 is my shorthand for Inventor 2011.

Normally installing IV is easy enough, you have gotten caught by the changes to the OS that Microsoft made between Windows XP/Vista/7 and Windows 8. Think of Apple's change form MacOS to the unix based OS.  Or maybe the transisition from PowerPC to Intel processors.

Autodesk has worked to support Windows 8 with IV 2014 as the first version.  IV 2015, which does not have an announced release date, should be better.  Over the last few years, the new version of IV comes out in late March/early April.  That version should install much smoother.

Hi! Like other members have pointed out, Inventor R2011 does not officially support Windows 8 (8.1) unfortunately. I do have a question for you. The subject title of this thread is about "File corruption" but the message says about R2011 failing to install on Windows 8. I am not entirely sure the two are the same issues. Are you sure they are related? Do you have an example showing the file corruption issue?

Thanks!

Best Buy sold Windows 8.1 to us to install on our partitioned 2010 Mac Mini Maverick OS. The installation on IV 2014, 2012, 2011 failed. So, per suggestion from an autodesk forum expert, I purchsed a Windows 7 last week. Best buy exchanged the Win. 8 for a Win. 7, but the Win. 7 disc had to be mailed to us. The instalkation on Wind. 7 went fine, this morning. I went to load an IV 2011, which took only 37 min with our newly subscribed fioptics speed demon internet service through Cincinnati Bell ....but now there is a "Next volume required. You need to have the following volume to continue extraction:" message and it lists IV, 64 bit. I'm not a PC person, can't drag and drop like I can with my mac, so I'm clicking ok.
Any thoughts?
Message 11 of 11

^ Clicking ok did nothing. So I clicked cancel which allowed me to see the error msg at the end of the installation. The error msg indicates 'corrupt files'. I tried to install again, and received the same message. The email sent by autodesk explains disabling the UAC. Doing tgat now.
