"Double Click" Edit Feature

I am using 2008. In previous releases I was able to double click on a feature in the tree and edit any dimension I wanted to, including the "extrusion dim". If I wanted to just edit the extrusion, I would RMB and edit feature. Now when I DBL Click in the tree, it is the same as the RMB used to be. Now to edit any dim other than the extruision, I have to edit sketch.......Time consumming...Is there a way to put it back?

Hope I am clear enough.

This has changed, I don't know why. You can still do the same thing by RMB on the feature and select show dimensions.

to match Microsoft standards. Initially it was incorrectly mapped to showing dimensions. Thanks.

Then how's about making the same mistake twice...I used that prolly only EVERY time i wanted to change a dim.

Guess I'll eventually get over it

The other way was a much better work flow for me. I would like to suggest a
possible change that will still keep Microsoft happy.

Possibly an edit dims section in the dialogue box.
or
Go into show dims after leaving dialogue box. If I remember correctly MDT
worked like this.

P.s. I must have just over looked this thread Yesterday. I didn't see a
2008 referance. I wish we had diferent newgroups.

Please note that this is not ONLY a Microsoft issue, we were internal to
Inventor very inconsistent with what double click did on any given object.

In MOST cases double click equals edit so that is what we are moving towards
for our own consistency.

I would agree that this is the logical work flow but not the most efficient.
I am constantly changing dimensions as I refine my design. Please look at
this again.

Something as simple as being able to hit the "S" after RMB would help.

Hmmm...

I'll look into that. I would have assumed there was a mnemonic for that....
if there isn't one I will get it added.

I am still on IV11, but I had a few questions about 2008.

If you set your selection tool to feature, are you still able to double click on the feature in the model window to show dimensions?

Also, does your setting with the selection tool stick from operation to operation? ie in an IAM set it to part, pick a part, open the part, edit the part, return to the IAM and the selection tool STAYS on part priority. or open a part, set the tool to feature priority, edit the part, open another part and the tool STAYS on feature priority.

How about shift + double click?

That is being considered but my PERSONAL problem with that is how
undiscoverable it is. And then if we get a new request do we make that one
ctrl-double click? Where does it end?

I've been doing UI programming primarily for over 15 years now, mostly in
the CAD industry and things like this always come up and we always debate
them.

We are actively discussing how to make the Show Dimensions workflow more
efficient.

I find the PROE way very efficient; double click on the feature in the modeling window and the feature dimensions are displayed in the modeling window. This works in IV if you set the selection filter to feature, but that setting always reverts to faces and edges if you change the which window that you are working in. If the selection filter would stick to the last setting for that class of model (set it in an ipt, it is the same for all ipts untill you change the setting, same for iams, idws, ipns,) then we would have a very quick workflow.

I definately agree with this thread. I have been using 2008 for some time now and still can't get used to not being able to double click features to edit sketch dimensions. Alt + double click opens properties in microsoft products. Something like this would be nice and save some time.

What a about making it a option?
A new UI tab under App. opt. where we can decide what we want for double click and right click in different modes.
Please don`t change it back to how it was i R11 and earlier.
Double click is for edit

A simple suggestion, make it so you can select the feature in the browser,
then hit "S". This would save you having to exand the feature. Or, allow
some other alias to be selected.

Funnny, I was diggging this am for a way to customize this, since it is
likely the most commonly used function in the whole program, and wouldn't
you know it, it can't be done. This has been overlooked for years. A fix
would be very welcome.

This is BY FAR my biggest complaint with 2008 - to have to R Click and then find the menu item "show dimensions" and then click again. I have done a thousand drawings, and still get frustrated time after time at how much more time it takes to do what used to be doable, I can give several different ways I use 'show dimensions' in nearly every drawing. My left hand is on a Spaceball, BTW, so holding CTRL or something would bealmost as frustrating.

I would be willing to bet a lot of money that if you made it a setting in "Application Options" that 90% of users would chose the fast way over the new way. P L E A S E make this a hot fix, I will buy you a Starbuck's Coffee : )

Thanks, Steven

Why does this not happen with contraints.  There is an edit option but it selects modify.
