Question about extending a 3DSketch

I would like to be able to offset a 3D Sketch in a direction normal to a plane.  In the attached image, I have drawn in an orange color the direction I would like the 3DSketch to offset.The white line is where the new sketch would be.

The yellow surface is the 3dsketch extend to a plane

 

There might be some tools in Inventor that will do what I am trying, but I have not found it yet.  I have tried extend surface, but that will not take it the direction I want.

Walt,

My 3dsketch is projected from an imported parts edge.  It is not generated from an intersection of a surface like you have... so I cant just offset the surface like you did.

Maybe sweep the 3D curve in that direction as a surface?

Hi Kirk,

 

It looks like you want to extrude a 3D profile by vector.  The vector would imply both direction and length of the extrusion.  Autodesk ShapeManager provides this functionality, and it's available in AutoCAD, but not in Inventor.  If you would like this functionality in Inventor, please post your request to the Inventor IdeaStation.

There is a workaround in Inventor -- Parallel sweep (aka rigid sweep).

 

  • The vector for extrusion above is the linear profile in parallel sweep below.
  • The 3D profile for extrusion above is the 3D path in parallel sweep below.
