Proper rules for converting orthographic view(2d) to isometric view(3d)...?

I have exams of isometric projections in five days..The exam is on paper and not on Autocad...I am not able to convert orthographic views(2d) into isometric views ...(3d)....First of all I asked my professor ...he told me that I have to imagine the object in 3d ...But on the first place I am unable to imagine the 3d view of object in my mind....I want the proper rules to able to convert orthographic view 2d into isometric 3d ....Plz help me

Finally some sap, I mean student that I can sell my mechanical drafting arm along with my ISO templates to. They are in great shape, only drawn by a little old lady from Pasedena on Sundays, clean, no rusty. The yellow you see is primer and the lead matches the color of your pupils. Trust me.
