Project file reverting to Default???

Has anyone even seen Inventor randomly reset a users project file from whatever it's set at to Default?

I have a couple of users here that for whatever reason have a habit of closing out Inventor everytime they want to close out one file and open another...yes, if they work on 10 files in one day, they've opened and closed Inventor 10 times...i.e. open, close, open, close, etc.

I've seen the project file reset happen on thier stations only thusfar.
Anyone else see this happening?

Nothing?

Is it such an odd practice of these users opening and closing Inventor for every file they open and close?

I know I think it's very odd, for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would do such. But it is the only common thread between the users having this issue.

Can anyone from ADesk verify this?

unless the hardware they are using is slow, there shouldn't be any
reason to close and reopen Inventor with every single part. Large
assemblies would be another story obviously.

One thing that comes to mind is if the users who are experiencing their
Project file being reset is that if they have (for some reason or
another) deleted the current Project file they were using - when they
go to restart Inventor I believe it would reset itself back to Default
since it wont be able to find the current ipj file.

I have seen this and it usually happens when the user has a mapped drive letter to the project file.
Try changing to full UNC path to project file and see if that helps.

FWIW, I've never had an issue with a mapped drive.

Sorry, hit send too soon.

This issue CAN happen if a drive letter is changed, or loses it's
mapping, OR in the case of UNC, the server name is changed.

Another issue is when a network drive is temporarily unavailable when
Inventor starts.

Had this problem awhile back when IT put in a new server and was remapping the drive letters.

That will cause it either way... 🙂

I've started seeing this for a couple of my users here. The project that we use is still listed and works (they simply have to activate it). However, upon restart, it resets to Default on one user's system and the last active project on another. My system and two others do not have this issue.

No drive letter changes or project file deletions (we're using Vault, so the drive is C:\).

Any other ideas why this would reset randomly?

Ok, now it does happen to my system as well. I used Autoloader the other weekend, and now it constantly wants to switch over to the "Projects" IPJ file that I used for the Autoloader. Failing that, it switches to a NEW Default.ipj that it seemingly creates in my temp folder!

Seriously, what on earth?

We are having this issue now as well. It is not everytime we open Inventor however it appears to happen more than not. We have 3 users and it happens to all 3 of us. We use Inventor 2011 Suite Windows 7 64 bit. Any there a fix for this?

Thanks,

We have this issue too, all files are on local disc, incuding ipj file. The project is randomly reset to the default. We use Inventor 2011, Windows 7 64bit. I have never seen this with Inventor 2010.

Our project file is on the local drive as well.

Anyone from Autodesk care to respond?

Has anyone figured this out.  3 of the 5 users here have the project switch to default when starting every day.  We're running 2011.

Thanks

I've got one user here experiencing the exact same thing, thought he was going crazy. Same thing here we're using Vault so our Master Project File is local... and it seems completely random. Sometimes it happens every day, some times he can go a couple days.

I'm glad I found this post.  One of our users is frustrated because he experiences this very same issue.  In his case, it appears that it only happens when he restarts his computer.  If he closes Inventor & then re-opens it, the project file typically remains set to the one we normally use.  But if he restarts his computer, then the project file reverts to default.

We're using IV 2011, & never experienced this issue in previous versions.

Has anyone found a fix for this?

No solution found (unfortunately) but the issue is growing around here... on my system it happens everytime I restart my computer. On the laptop beside me his Master Vault Project disappeared from the list every day last week (on reboot) but this week decided to start working. Other users see it ifrom time to time

Seems to be completely random...

Any roaming profiles where the users "home" directory resides on the server?
