Project File Help

Hi,

Still getting my head around the project file concept.

Is there a way that when I open a part/assembly I can tell which project file it belongs to?

I'm having difficulty opening parts without it saying "project file doesn't match the current one" or similar.

How do I go with using the same part across multiple projects?  I.e.. A type of bracket.  Do I have to convert it's project file so this warning doesn't pop up for each job?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Joe

The Project File defines the working directory as well as the libraries for each "Project" you work on. The following link might help you out.

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Hi Joe_Banger,

I'm not intending to promote a product here, but in addition to the link blair provided, you can find more information on this subject at this link. This exact question is covered in the Job-Based IPJ Setups topic on pages 23-24, look specifically at the subject of project Library paths:

http://media.wiley.com/product_data/excerpt/62/11185448/1118544862-3.pdf#page=22&zoom=auto,54,180

You might also consider creating a single all encompassing project file, rather than a project file for each job. But you'll know best which of these approaches works best for your situation.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
