ProE File opening

Ok, just recieved some ProE files from a client needed in conjunction with a
design job I'm working on.
When attempting to load I get an error message saying they must be version
21 or higher, not supported at this time..
Does anyone (Autodesk) know when they might be supported?!?

I had this jpeg of a sign all frozen over. The sign said hell, I thought it would have been a good guess as to your answer but I couldn't find the jpeg. You get the idea though. I could be very very wrong and I'm sure Autodesk WANTS to be able to open binary Pro/E files but it probably isn't that easy.

Don't make any plans on it. Have the ProE guy send you a STEP file instead.

You can open ProE files that are Release 20 or older. I believe ProE is now
on Rel 24 or something, so you're probably out of luck. You'll have to try
stp, sat, iges to move the files between systems.

if its small enough, you could post to CF or email
and i could convert them for you. i have proe 2001

ptc has a thing where they let out the source for
the 3rd oldest version i think.

Pro/E v20 and earlier files were not encrypted in any way (flat text file).
Autodesk and other companies were able to read these files directly and
translated the data to geometry in their respective programs. Once PTC
started encrypting the files this functionality was lost. I highly doubt
that Autodesk would license the technology from PTC or that PTC would even
allow them to for direct data translation.

I deal with Pro/E data on a daily basis. So far, or best solution for
translating the data has been Elysium's CADPorter. It is rather expensive,
but it is faster and more accurate than STEP for our more complex castings.
You still have the problem of having to have Pro/E installed on a machine to
do the translation.
