our (first year) subscription is going to expire soon. during the year, we called no body for help. we were "satisfied" with autocadR14 for many years until windowsXP on the way out and had to switch/upgrade. is it worth to renew the subscription for a minimum $800 a seat?

Check how much it will cost to "re-up" when you are officially off Subscription - it could be as much as a full license purchase (don't take my word for it - costs vary based on location.  Go to your reseller, find out *exactly* what the numbers are).  Compare that to your Subscription cost.
