Printing

Is there a way to setup the printer setting and keep that as the default.

DMF,

I go to Start->Settings->Printers then RMB on
the printer you want and click "Printing Preferences..."

There's another way also...

Start->Settings->Printers then RMB on the
printer you want and click "Properties" and then hit the button down near
the bottom of the dialog box called "Printing Preferences..."

It seems like the second method "holds" the
settings better than the first for me, but it may only be available through
certain priviledges permitted by your IT administrator.  If it's not
available to you, the first method should work fine.

However, my Inventor defauts to print scale "Model
1:1" and I have to manually click "Best Fit" anytime I'm doing test prints on a
smaller printer.

Hope that helps, Tim W.

Ok I have an odd problem. I have an assembly that is finished complete with
a BOM. I goto print and the print comes out with the text all over the
place. I am using the AutoCAD default border for the time being. I am
printing to an HP Laserjet 4V. I do not see in IV a place to setup printers
and plotters like there was in 2000 MCADPP. I checked and they are the
latest set of drivers for said printer. Just seems out that the border and
assembly all work out, but the text all goes to the upper left in line at a
45 degree angle.

Yet ANOTHER candidate for "Print text as graphics"?

Normally I would take a small offense to your 'ANOTHER'. Seeing as how not
everyone is NG literate and or first time users I will let it slide right
out of my brain as I do when the boss rambles on. I have had 40,000 other
questions that have been answered by the help file, which has been quite
usefull, and not posted here. If it's here I couldn't find it in help file
or by trial and error. So please cut some of us some slack when there are
duplicate questions, and just let us know how to find the already answered
ones. That would help me out more. Thank you for the answer though. I will
try to find that setting and work with it from there.

Your point is well taken, many of us that have been here for years tend
to abbreviate our answers as the years go by. That said, I took Brian's
reply as he wasn't positive, but suspected the setting to be the
problem. Basically people help as much as they can with the info they
have gotten and the time they have to respond. All of us have jobs and
post here when that job permits.

To answer you question on searching, if you are using a newsreader it
has the built in capability to search any of the messages that you have
downloaded. How to do it depends on the newsreader.
If you are using the web you can go here
http://discussion.autodesk.com/WebX?14@40.Tjvfa5c2p9v.0@.ee93814
and at the top in the Find box type in a few key words that you are
looking for and change how far back you want to search. Then hit the
button.

but if he replied "Check the Inventor FAQ at www.iamaninventorgod.com" that's legit?

Moderator hat off.. I fail to see where pointing someone to a FAQ is a bad thing. It is
pretty common in all kinds of newsgroups, and I think it helps to have one here.

Not sure what has your goat, but it seems pretty un-called for.

I'm all for reading and trial and error. Any info
is helpful. Heck I just did my first loft today. Only took 3 hours to figure it
out. And I think it's right. Was a royal pain in 2d cad. So to answer if it
would be legit? No if that would have been the website. If quality helpful
answers aren't in your recipe of the day, then don't answer. Wait till your in a
better frame of mind and help someone else out on a later date.

i am in no way saying that having an FAQ is a bad thing. i find most of the answers to my questions there. all im trying to point out is that brian answered (maybe) his question directly without simply redirecting him to another palce to find the answer.

Thank you, Steve.  I capitalize one word and I get crucified for
it.  I'm just trying to help.
