Power exit when applying constraint

The file in question will be posted to autodesk.inventor.customer-files
with the same subject.

I have two square steel tubes that I want to constrain, beginning with a
mate constraint, so that the end result will make these two parts into
an "L" shape.

First I place the Horizontal Sheet Metal Support. Next I place the
Vertical Back Sheet Metal Support.

At this point I apply a Mate constraint to the end of the Vertical Sheet
Metal Support, and rotate the view to apply the corresponding Mate
constraint to the bottom of the Horizontal Sheet Metal Support.

The program will then work for a few seconds and exit. It does this
with either the weldment.iam or standard.iam.

IV7
NT4.0 SP6

Any help greatly appreicated.

Chris you have to post the part (IPT) files along with the IAM. Zip them up
and try again.

My mistake. I'll send it right over.

FYI: this is crashing no matter how I try to apply constraints. I have even
gone so far as to place the Horizontal Support and start with a new vertical,
but it still crashes.

Like this?

I had no issues. Let's look at your system a bit closer.

Processor, Ram, Video Card, OS etc..

For what its worth - I also had no problem creating the constraints...

Xi Computer
Processor is PIII 733
256 M Ram
Video is 3d Labs Oxygen VX1
NT 4.0 SP6a
Supermicro PIIISCD Motherboard with PC133 SDRAM

I have already started inquries to see if memory is still available for this
computer (anything to put off buying a new one).

This must be some type of system issue. I just tried to constrain two simple
cubes and that caused the exit.

256MB RAM!

OK there is probably the problem. I'm surprised you could make the parts let
alone assemble them.

Bump this up to 768MB minimum (for assemblies of a few dozen parts) and
1GB-2GB if you are serious about using IV.

The processor and video card you have is on the "older" end as well. OK but
not going to be the best performer.

Set the video hardware options to windows GDI and try again ...?
Maybe it's the video driver.

I know this is getting a little long in the tooth.  It's almost impossible
to get memory for this motherboard.  It's looking like this could
be good time for a new box.

But I had no problems with constraints in V6.
