Poor graphics performance with 8 instances of a linear bearing.

When I add about 8 of the linear bearings (model downloaded from
McMaster-Carr 6489K52 in STEP format) to an assembly, Inventor graphics
performance
seems to take a nosedive. It becomes choppy nomatter what I set my
application preferences to (rough, smooth, etc.).

It seems to me like this is not that much geometry and it shouldn't be an
issue. Is this a driver issue or something else? Thanks

Even with the bearing EOP marker needs to be moved down and Zipped up, the
file is too big to post here (1.59MB).

I seem to have isolated the problem.

Each linear bearing has 290 balls modeled in it. I overrode the color of
the balls to chrome, to make them more obvious. Apparently Invento does not
like this. However, when the whole model is made chrome, the performance
hit is not there. I changed all the ball colors to Metal-Steel and the
performance also doesn't suffer (the overall model color is a more matte
gray). So why does changing the color of the balls to something shiny hurt
performance but not when changing the whole model to something shiny?
