Please Help; Plastic Mould Fill Analysis

Hi All,

I really hope someone can help me here. I'm trying to work out how to use the mold design tools for Inventor Pro. I have gotten as far as the mould is designed and built for a small plastic part for one of my products. I wish to do something like a mould flow analysis for my part. However when I try to set the "Mould process Settings" or try to start the "Moldflow Fill Analysis" I get a error message stating "Cannot open Moldflow project."

I have year of experience with inventor but only on the modeling side, never in the simulation or mold design side.

Can someone please tell me what this error message means and how I can fix it to start doing the fill analysis?

Attached is a screenshot of the error I am getting.

Thank you in advance, Chris from Wollongong Australia.

Is this a stand-alone seat or is it a network license?

Did you try setting that as soon as you placed the Plastic Part (before creating the mold)?

Have you set the Select Material?

Have you installed the Service Packs?

If you

reboot the computer

create a simple cube part, go into the Mold Design Environment, set the material and then click Mold Process Settings - do you get the same error.

Hi JDMather,

Thank you for the reply.

I have the current service pack installed, and I have tried what you have said.

Unforunetly the program still tells me i need t at least specifiy a gate for me to apply the settings or to try running the simulation. Eitherway I still get the same error message.

"Cannot open Moldflow Project."

Is Moldflow a seperate program which is installed or is it included as part of "Inventor Pro"?

Moldflow is a separate program - but you do not need it for what you are trying to do in Inventor.

I have seen similar "Moldflow" error in the past - but not this exact error.

A search here should turn up references to that error.

Was Inventor installed with anti-virus and UAC disabled?

First thing I would try is a repair install.

Well, now I'm getting this error as well.  IV 2015 Pro.  Update 1 installed, but not update 2 (yet).  Yes, I installed with UAC / AV off.

My mold is complete, with core / cavity, base, cooling channels & parts, sprue bushing, etc.  Same error message - "cannot open moldflow project."

I ran a simulation on this same mold last week ...

experiencing same issue, has anyone perhaps found a solution or way of resolving it?

On my issue, I think it was something broken in one of my files.  I think I'd tried to be clever and take a shortcut by editing a file in a way that I really shouldn't have, made some major changes to something, and that broke the mold design assembly.  I believe that once I went back and did it the right way, it worked out just fine again.

It looks like some files are missing or not on currently folder. I can take a closer look at this issue if anyone can provide your dataset.

Hi @sct_cassar,

What helps is if you go to Model view in your browser and delete all 3th party links. Then save everything, restart inventor and rerun your analysis. That'll work fine!

Let me know if it's not clear, then I'll make a movie.

Regards,

David

Yes, I have been waiting for two years for this.

Please make the movie.

Hi @JDMather@sct_cassar,

Here's a screencast!

Thanks, david.truyens! I just had this same problem, and your screencast was exceptionally clear and helped me to solve it straight away.

Thank you David.

For taking the time to screen cast that solution.

I will try it and let you know if it solved my problem or not.
