Physical Simulation

If any of you have a subscription to CADence and have the Feb. '03 copy, you
know about SW's Physical Simulation, which allows, among other things, the
ability to rotate chain around a sprocket. This is something I would like to see
in Inventor. Any idea if this is gonna happen? I was sort of able to do a chain
simulation using a hidden 3D path and driven angle constraint, but it was not an
even rotation. (Ask for a better explanation if you care) I know about Dynamic
Designer, but I'm hoping for something internal in IV.

I saw that too. From what I have seen of SW's ability however this is not
as easy as the article makes it appear to be. While I will admit it more
than IV can do it bothers me when articles make these broad sweeping
statements about software.

I'd love to have this type of kinematic simulation as well.

I talked to an Autodesk rep at a presentation about a month ago. He said he didn't know of any plans for physical dynamics. His opinion is that should be a third party add-on. I think with some pressure on the folks at Autodesk they should at least match Solidworks toggle setting for two solid bodies not allowed to occupy the same space. But then everyone will want full kinematics, so I can see their point in leaving it to third party apps.

This feature inside SW uses a peice of software
from d-cubed which is not inside Inventor. So unless Autodesk write it
themselves we are not likely to see it in Inventor in the near
future.

And yes I have used this feature in SW and I found
it quite easy to use, and quite reliable.
