Is there a way to get the appearance of perforation on a sheet metal tube without
having to create each and every hole? Looking for an appearance to drag onto the surface.
Kind of like when you make a part look like it is made of brick. It being just an image on the model surface.
Thanks

Hi..
If you look in colors list you will find a Perforated Metal 01 style... thats it?
Ding, Ding, Ding.....
That is it!!! Thank you. I did look there but my eyes didn't catch that.
hehe
Where can i send the bill? Joke 😉
Funny,
You can send this bill to the same place you sent the last one!!!
Maria,
I have one more question. While this perferation looks great in the model
how do you get it to show up in the drawing short of changing the view to shaded?
Is there a way?
Hi Scott,
That's the big disadvantage of using the image rather than model features. I think that is not possible see in the image without being shaded view.
Autodesk folk, some trick???
Thanks,
Thanks Maria,
Yes, this is an issue. But since my company is tranisioning to Vault this
may not be as much of an issue anymore. The only reason is we have to save these
Inventor drawings out as .dwg so the checker can check various things in ACAD.
He does not have Inventor nor knows how to use it.
I did shade it for the Inventor drawing. Looks great that way.
Thanks again for your reply.

Hi Guys,
Do any of you know how to scale the holes to appear smaller in the perf appearance?
Thanks

Manage>Stlyes Editor. Find the Color you want to alter. Change the settings on either the Texture tab or the Bump Map tab (can't remember which one).
Guys,
I figured it out. Please dont mind it.
Its in the Adjust tool. Works like a Charm.
Is it possible to keep the perforation always offset from the outer edges. This way the part never has holes/broken holes on the edges.
example :
Try using the split command to create a smaller surface region on the front and back faces of the sheet. Select those surfaces and RMB to bring up the properties menu. Once there, use the drop down to change the face appearance as required.

Hi Maria,
i'm trying to find Perforated Materl 01 in the colour list but can not find it. Could you please explain where i can find it, in'm new with Inventor.
Thanks, Joop
Hi Joop,
If you are using Inventor 2017 / 2018 please search in Appearance list by Expanded Metal or Plate - Perforated
Please see also this topics:
Hi Maria,
thanks for the information. But when i'm looking at het idw then the perforation is only vissible in the Shaded view but not in the "Hidden lines remove" view style.
Is the only option to make the perforation in Material?
Hi Joop,
Yes, the perforation is using Mask image to hide or show the graphics in the back. But, the actual geometry does not exist. As a result, it is only available in shaded view not in other types of drawing views. If you do need to show the perforation in other view types, you will need to cut the holes and create such geometry.
Many thanks!
